How To

The Learning Zone aims to educate customers of Resins-Online about the different materials available online.

In this section we will look at the different types of Polyurethane and Epoxy Styling, Modelling and Tooling boards available at Resins-Online.

We can start by understanding what these blocks and boards are intended for. Resin block or board is a pre-cast polyurethane or epoxy resin that is cast under specially controlled conditions, carefully cured and post cured to produce high quality blocks or boards of material that has many different uses.

The block or board is produced to give a full range of materials that can be very lightweight or resin rich and dense, but incredibly stable when machined using CNC (Computer Numerical Control) milling machines. This means a computer converts the design produced by Computer Aided Design software (CAD), into numbers. The numbers can be considered to be the coordinates of a graph and they control the movement of the cutter. In this way the computer controls the cutting and shaping of the material.

This Sika brochure gives a good overview of the different grades of block/boards available for all types of work from pattern making, master models, foundry patterns, match plates, jigs and fixtures, artwork, sculpture, tooling for production, vacuum forming tools and prototype tooling plus much more.
